Audio/visual artist Jay Vernon has recently contributed to Measha Bruggergosman-Lee’s double album “Laureate,” specifically on side B titled “Planet Measha,” which was predominantly produced by Jay and his collective, Muzik Over Matter. One of the tracks was orchestrated by Aaron Davis for the NAC Orchestra and was performed live at the 2024 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards in Ottawa on June 8th.
In 2021, four original songs by Jay Vernon, inspired by his homeland of Nova Scotia – "Bus Ride To The Khyber," "Forgotten Coast," "Stand Up X Fight," and "East Coast Party" – were performed and recorded live on stage at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa with Canada’s National AC Symphony. The orchestration was done by Edwin Huizinga and Aaron Davis, featuring opera singer Measha Bruggergosman-Lee on vocals, Snarky Puppy’s drummer Larnell Lewis, and Rich Brown on bass guitar. The recordings, visuals, and musical themes from the performance were incorporated into a documentary series episode titled after his original song, “Forgotten Coast: Undisrupted Ep.1,” which streamed on CBC Gem.
Jay is currently in the studio working on his highly anticipated debut solo album, Divine Orchestration: The Traumatic Symphony Of Life. This record boasts collaborations with musical legends like Measha Brueggergosman, Naco, Dead Prez, Pharcyde, Masta Ace, and many more. In addition to his solo work, he's releasing a collaborative project with Detroit rapper Frank Nitt. Their debut single, "What U Hear 4," is available on YouTube, Instagram, and all major streaming platforms.
